Tregorrick Titans 6 - Charlestown HIQ 0

Monday, March 24th, 2008

East Cornwall Youth League U9B

On a cold and windy day the Titans started the brighter and scored an early goal through  Jordan Cooper he picked up the ball just outside the box and drilled his shot pass the Charlestown keeper.  A fine strike by Jack Williams made it 2-0 and a great goal by Nathan Allen brought up the third goal, he made a great challenge in the Charlestown half and collected the ball to slot the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.  Charlestown had an opportunity to score when they won a penalty , but unfortunately the Charlestown striker blazed his shot over the bar.  Just to rub it in the Titans went up the other end and Jack Williams delivered a great cross which lead to a Charlestown defender putting the ball into his own net. Just on the stroke of half  time the Titans won a penalty and Jack Williams stepped up and tucked away the penalty to score his second goal and go in at half time 5-0 up.

The second half was a close affair the the Titans goalkeeper Oliver Burt making some fine saves and some last ditch tackles from Matt Retallick and Jacob Summerwill kept out the Charlestown strikers.  On the break the impressive partnership of Jordan Cooper and Jack Williams combined again with Cooper scoring his 18th goal of the season, this capped a fine performance from the Titans.

Charlestown MSC 0 - 8 Tregorrick Celts

Sunday 16th March 2008 ECYFL

Well the score line tells it all (nearly).

The Celts visited Charlestown MSC at their ground and played their hearts out, resulting in a dramatic score line, which was totally deserved.

With only 7 of the squad able to play the Celts were more than ready to get this match started, and all it took was about 30 seconds for Cally Rundle to get the first goal of the day.

James Venning followed it up with the 2nd and Sam Webb got the 3rd (and his first as a Celt), with James Venning eagerly following again with the 4th. The 5th came from a Cally Rundle screamer. George Truscott netted the 6th with a well-placed shot.

Jamie Franks managed to get on the end of a perfect corner to header in the 7th goal of the game.

Half time was upon us and all the boys were looking more action and manager Graham Frise was looking for more fingers to count on.

Second half and as the Celts were attacking up hill this time they started a rotation system, all taking turns in defence to have a bit of a breather, but they still kept attacking MSC’s keeper with shots flying in from every angle. Dillon Frise just missed the far post with another flying header from a Cally Rundle corner.

After a while playing up hill started to take its toll on the Celts but they dug in deep to prevent any attempts that Charlestown could muster from doing any damage. Jamie Franks put the final nail in the coffin when he made a long run up the field passing nearly all of MSC’s players and then planting it firmly in the bottom corner of the net to get the 8th and final goal of the match.

Tom Rowe (Keeper) all though he had a quiet game, when needed to did pull some very good saves out of the bag and managed to keep a clean sheet.

Squad: Tom Rowe (Keeper), Jamie Franks, Sam Webb, George Truscott, James Venning (Capt.), Dillon Frise and Cally Rundle.

Managers Comment “The Celts played very good football today and totally dominated the field, they played well as a team and were unlucky not to get more goals”.

Well done you Celts.

Tregorrick Celts V Charlestown Youth (E.C.Y.F.L) 9th March 08

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Tregorrick Celts played host to their local rivals Charlestown Youth on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon at Tregorrick Park YFC, St Austell.

With both managers hoping the weather would hold off for just a little longer, the match started and within the first 5 minutes, after scruffy play Charlestown managed to get the ball fed through Tregorricks defence to get the first goal of the day.

Then the weather decided to play its part, with rain, hail and sleet driving down with force it was decided the boys should take shelter until it cleared.

Game on again and the Celts soon equalised following a Dillon Frise throw in to James Venning who collected the ball calmly and laid it off to Cally Rundle, who fizzed the ball past Charlestown’s goalie and into the back of the net, making it 1 – 1.  With the score line tied the Celts were on the advance, George Truscott played a lovely through ball to Cally Rundle who then set it up perfectly for Dillon Frise to bury in the back of the net, 2 – 1 to the Celts.Jamie Franks fired a succession of quality corners into Charlestown’s area, testing their defenders and goalie on numerous occasions, followed by a cracking shot from James Venning which made Charlestown’s goalie pull an athletic save out of the hat.  Charlestown were equally determined to test the Celts defensive line of Jamie Franks and Jack Curley who between them made it very hard for Charlestown’s strikers to advance and a free kick was finally awarded to them, with 3 people in the wall the Celts stood their ground with Dillon Frise managing to block the shot, Charlestown however followed it up quickly and managed to get one past the Celts goalie Tom Rowe making the score 2 – 2.Sam Webb came on to replace Jack Curley and after a quick shuffle of positions he settled down in mid-field for the Celts, working with George Truscott and James Venning as a unit, they made some good advancing game play.  Cally Rundle tried to get the elusive third goal for the Celts with a high struck penalty, followed quickly with another shot striking the post of Charlestown’s goal.

Celts manager Graham Frise said, this match had all the makings of a local derby that wouldn’t have been out of place on M.O.T.D.

Both teams played good quality football with passion and determination in abundance.

Final score Tregorrick Celts 2 – 2 Charlestown Youth

Celts squad: Tom Rowe*, Jack Curley, Jamie Franks, James Venning (cpt), George truscott, Sam Webb, Dillon Frise, Cally Rundle.

Well Done “You Celts”.
