Peter Hawley Chairmans Cup
Sunday, October 14th, 2007A weekend of youth football tournaments played in memory of people who have dedicated their time over the years in youth football.
Venue: St Tudy playing fields. Over 15 teams participated.
The Peter Hawley Chairman’s Cup played on Sun 7th October was won by the Under 11’s – Tregorrick Rangers
Tregorrick YFC 4 – Pensilva 0
Peter Hawley was the chairman of the East Cornwall League.
Arriving at St Tudy playing fields on a lovely sunny but cold morning, Nigella Lawson (alias Gary Cornish) greeted us with the wonderful aroma of barbequed bacon baps! What a start.
Tregorrick won their group stage
Final: Tregorrick 4 and Pensilva 0
After a good morning’s football the final kicked off at 12.15pm with both teams ready to go. The match was on and shortly after a couple of minutes Tregorrick scored. Both teams played great football but Tregorrick’s defence stood their ground and halted any attack from their opponents. Pensilva’s defence was improving by the minute, however with Tregorrick’s surefooted midfield dynamo Josh Yelland scoring two goals and two great headers from defender/sniffer Luke Bilkey - the final whistle blew. Both teams played with great sporting spirit and Tregorrick are sure Pensilva will put up a tough game when they meet them in the East Cornwall League cup round in a couple of weeks.
