Tregorrick Celts played host to their local rivals Charlestown Youth on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon at Tregorrick Park YFC, St Austell.
With both managers hoping the weather would hold off for just a little longer, the match started and within the first 5 minutes, after scruffy play Charlestown managed to get the ball fed through Tregorricks defence to get the first goal of the day.
Then the weather decided to play its part, with rain, hail and sleet driving down with force it was decided the boys should take shelter until it cleared.
Game on again and the Celts soon equalised following a Dillon Frise throw in to James Venning who collected the ball calmly and laid it off to Cally Rundle, who fizzed the ball past Charlestown’s goalie and into the back of the net, making it 1 – 1. With the score line tied the Celts were on the advance, George Truscott played a lovely through ball to Cally Rundle who then set it up perfectly for Dillon Frise to bury in the back of the net, 2 – 1 to the Celts.Jamie Franks fired a succession of quality corners into Charlestown’s area, testing their defenders and goalie on numerous occasions, followed by a cracking shot from James Venning which made Charlestown’s goalie pull an athletic save out of the hat. Charlestown were equally determined to test the Celts defensive line of Jamie Franks and Jack Curley who between them made it very hard for Charlestown’s strikers to advance and a free kick was finally awarded to them, with 3 people in the wall the Celts stood their ground with Dillon Frise managing to block the shot, Charlestown however followed it up quickly and managed to get one past the Celts goalie Tom Rowe making the score 2 – 2.Sam Webb came on to replace Jack Curley and after a quick shuffle of positions he settled down in mid-field for the Celts, working with George Truscott and James Venning as a unit, they made some good advancing game play. Cally Rundle tried to get the elusive third goal for the Celts with a high struck penalty, followed quickly with another shot striking the post of Charlestown’s goal.
Celts manager Graham Frise said, this match had all the makings of a local derby that wouldn’t have been out of place on M.O.T.D.
Both teams played good quality football with passion and determination in abundance.

Celts squad: Tom Rowe*, Jack Curley, Jamie Franks, James Venning (cpt), George truscott, Sam Webb, Dillon Frise, Cally Rundle.
